How to clean an antique ironstone platter?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009
cicatrix asked:

I bought a great ceramic platter from the thrift store, but it has a few spots where the glaze is scratched, and stains have soaked into the body. They didn’t come out with normal washing. Can I soak the platter in a bleach solution? Will that help? Will it damage the glaze? Is there a better way to clean it?
It’s white, with a bit of a yellowish patina.

How much are my antique bricks worth?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009
dmwr asked:

I’ve removed a chimney from my 1919 house, and I have about 400 bricks from the chimney. I’ve been offered .25 cents per brick - is this a reasonable offer or should I hold out? And, secondarily, if I wanted to go buy new bricks, how much would they cost me per brick?
The bricks aren’t the cleanest - some are in good shape - others aren’t.

These are print blocks with old adverts on them. I have at least 100, but it is not necessary to use them all in a single display. Thanks for your suggestions!

What is the best way to find someone that can dismantle and reuse the wood from my antique barn?

sunshyne77177 asked:

I have a barn that is post and beam, over 200 years old that we would like someone to come out and give a price for the antique wood and dismantle it as well. We are in Maine and I am sure there are companies that do this but my internet search is coming up empty.
